A Visual History of The Subaru Impreza

It would be fairly hard to find a car enthusiast that isn't a big fan of the Subaru Impreza, and we'd be no different here at MicksGarage. I've never owned one myself, but my Dad had one and, amazingly, as an 18 year old lad, I was allowed to drive it! God it was quick! or at least it felt quick compared to the 1 litre Peugeot 106 I was driving around in normally.

As a teenager back in the early 90's, in the era of Britpop, you had two choices, you were either a Blur or an Oasis Fan. If you were a car guy, you had to make a choice too. You were either a Scooby fan or an EVO fan. You kind of had to lay out your stall and pick a side.

Personally I was in the Subaru camp. The EVO won out in terms of outlandish styling but nothing in my mind will ever top the unforgettable sight and sound of  Colin McRae blasting through the Welsh forests on the RAC rally in a cacophony of gravel spray and anti-lag.... it was just epic!!

So here's our little tribute to a car that caught the imagination of an entire generation:

VIDEO: McLaren P1 vs Porsche 918 Spyder

The McLaren P1 and Porsche 918 Spyder are two of the quickest supercars on the planet. But which is the fastest around the spectacular Anglesey Circuit? evo's Jethro Bovingdon attaches the Vbox timing kit and finds out....

Chris Harris, The McLaren P1 Some Powersliding & Some Very Cool But Very Nerdy Stuff

If you're more interested in the nuts and bolts of how a modern hypercar works than repeated, gratuitous slow motion shots of a perfectly executed powerslide coupled with copious amounts of whooping from the hack behind the wheel then the first video here is for you.
Chris Goodwin, the chief test driver on the McLaren P1 gives a fascinating insight into how the P1 works

If the powersliding and whooping is more your bag then the 2nd video here is for you.
Chris Harris, by far the best powersliding hack in the business gets behind the wheel of what is the best hypercar in the business......for now. when's that Ferrari out?

Jay Leno's Garage. The McLaren P1

I'm a huge fan of the McLaren P1. It is, in my opinion the most fabulous looking supercar ever made, and really that and the noise a supercar makes is what it comes down to for most of us because let's face it we're never going to own one or even get a spin in one! Best looking supercar ever is a bold statement I know, especially considering the company it keeps, both past and present. Can it stack up against the Countach, the F40, the Zonda, the Aventador, the Veyron or even the Miura? I think so, yes. With the exception of the Miura and maybe the Veyron all the others are a bit shouty, angular and generally ott. Not that there's anything wrong with that. The Veyron doesn't fall into any of those categories but lets face it, you could hardly call it beautiful...and it sounds a bit like a turbocharged tug boat.

The Miura is the car i'd compare it to if any. It's small, beautifully proportioned, has curves in all the right places, is relatively unassuming (compared to the competition) but yet has completely savage performance. The downside? does it sound as good as an Aventador? no, but in the new turbocharged era of low emissions and attempts at economy i'm not sure anything does. or will again.

Anyway, my ramblings are just a precursor to the whole point of this post. The video below follows Jay Leno on a trip to McLaren HQ where he has been invited to drive the P1 on track - needless to say he's ordered one. in yellow.
