What's The Safest Day To Drive On?

The June Bank Holiday weekend is nearly upon us and there's even rumours of a bit of sunshine at the start of the weekend! For many of us it means packing up the car, the kids and the pets and heading away for the weekend. Sure why wouldn't you, it's the summer after-all!

Looking back through the collision statistics on the RSA website the unfortunate news is that over the last 8 years they have published statistics for (2005-2012) it indicates the worst day of the week to travel is Friday between 10am-7pm. That doesn't really narrow it down for you now does it? The safest day and time to travel is a Wednesday morning between 3am-7am. Of course it is, as the majority of us are tucked up in our beds and fast asleep!

It's nothing we didn't know already but it's all the more reason to drive safely. If you are planning a trip make sure you're well prepared for the journey. If you are leaving after work on Friday expect to be sat in traffic for a while getting out of the city or main towns. Consider waiting an hour or two and leaving a bit later, the evenings are brighter now so you can still be driving in natural light until roughly 9pm. It's a busy weekend with plenty of events on, Bloom in Phoenix Park and the Flora Women's Mini Marathon, so it's always a good idea to check for any traffic restrictions before you set out. You can find these on the AA roadwatch. Whatever you get up to make sure you enjoy yourselves!
